Default Re-gear oil change question

I just had 5.13s put in about 2 weeks ago. I was told to drive 500 miles doing various speeds. Problem is I don't live far from work and I've only put maybe 200 miles on it. I am going down to the redneck riviera (Gulf Shores, AL) for Memorial Day. My question is should I change the oil a bit early before the trip or just go on the trip (4-5 hours away) and just vary my speed then change the oil when I get back?

Change it. Then change it when you get back too. Take it easy on the trip. Keep ur speed down. take a couple of 30-45 minute breaks on the trip to let oil cool. I would just do the rear first. change front when u get back. Front wont be under load since u wont be in 4wd, it can wait a little longer to change.

sure, go ahead and change it before you leave. if you're concerned, just use cheap dino gear oil and then do another change when you get back home.

Thanks! That sounds pretty much like what I thought. I'll probably need the breaks anyway to fill up with gas. Here's hoping my mileage goes up to 17...
