Default Re gearing

i've got 35's and 6th gear is out of the question most times...

which is the better way to go...4.88 or 5.13 and what advantages to we have here?

i don't wanna go to much but i need to regain some of my power to tow my boat maybe...and also to complete these hill climbs with out stalling with it floored in 1st gear...thats a bit pathetic

4.88 with the manual is the consensus.

I have 5.13's and very happy with them. I'm running 35's also and pull my trailer with 2 atv's loaded in it just fine . Before I installed new gears hills would kill my jk . Either way you go you'll be satisfied if your running 3.73's know.

Most 6 speed non Rubi JK's are 3.21's unless you ordered it or have the tow package. I put the 4.88's on mine and love the added power. If you drive at highway speeds much (70 mph) I would stick with the 4.88's. I can tow my 3200lb camper through the mountains maintaining about 60 mph with no issues running 35" GY MT/R's on my 4 door with 4.88's.

When I was looking to buy a 4dr jk all of them I looked at the dealerships had 3.73 gears unless it was a rubi and some sahara's had them. I think the total cost on gears and having them installed was around $1500. I could have gone some place cheaper but the shop that installed them have worked on drivetrain for over 30 years. So when you go to have them installed do your home work and find a shop that has a good rep and don't worry about saving $300 to $400 dollars because you can find someone cheaper it's not worth it. Had 2 buddies get burnt trying to save money.

with this set up how is mpg i need to regear badly. i would love 4.10s but i do also sometimes tow a small trailer with our atvs on it. probably going with 4.56s form Northridge

I am getting better gas mileage now than I did with 35's and 3.21 gearing. If I keep the speed at about 60-65 on the highway, I can get around 18-20 mpg. In city driving I get 14-15 mpg. Overall I average about 16.5. When towing it is much worse, but that would be the case with stock 32's and 3.21's.
