Re-gearing options - Specific question.
Other than the rotation, what's the difference? I was under the impression that the front was pretty much a standard D30. Did I shortbus it?
Here are some that are reverse cut:

for sure, I was under the impression the JK's ring gears are thicker or something like that, so you cant use normal axle parts on the JK's
Wheres Northridge4x4 when you need him
Oh well. It would figger it wouldn't be this easy, wouldn't it?
My ears are burning
Rear JK uses the 3.73 and down carrier requiring a thick gear to be used.
Front uses 3.73 and higher carrier requiring standard gears.

Edit: and yes the front is a reverse rotation high pinion axle.

ha ha, yes...I just put the Jeep up on axle stands now and am tearing into the front 30 as we speak....no beers for me todayTrueTrac going in, what a purdy piece of kit.
Other than the reverse cut I'm not sure what all else is different...it's always an adventure.
I did have to change my carrier though as I am going to 4.10's from the 3.21's...the front doesn't have the thick gears like the 44's
Cool, then that means with that last link, I found 5.38s for the D30. Or am I readin that wrong?
I have a Manual 07 Jeep Unlimited X (4 door) with a 4'' teraflex long arm lift. I plan on adding a 1 inch bl soon. I have 37'' tires that fit perfectly and do GREAT offroad.
I noticed a difference in driving and power after the lift install and want to upgrade a few things to increase gas mileage and power.
EVERYTHING else is stock on this jeep(besides cutting my pinch seam)... My question is: What gear ratio would be best(5.18?), and would it be wise to upgrade my clutch/tranny along with the gearing?
Also: If I don't upgrade the gears, can it damage the engine/clutch/tranny?
I have another $2k I have available to add to this jeep for the time being.
Any suggestions would help.
