Default Re-gearing question

Hi, I have an 07 unlimited X with a D30 up front and a D44 in the rear and was thinking about regearing/lockers? To do this would I need a new front axle(D44) both lockers and all the gears all at once or could I do it one thing at a time? Thanks for the help. Also, could I run 35's with the set up I have right now with minimal issues or would I need gears/new axle for that??

Which gears do you have now? With an auto on 35's, 3.73's with OD Off may be acceptable. 3.21's, even with OD Off, will be the suck.

You will want gears front and rear, overhaul kits front and rear, and if you currently have 3.21's, you will want a new carrier for the D30. If you upgrade to a front 44, it depends on the gearing it comes with, right?

When you re-gear is the best time to add lockers, as you only pay the labor charge once instead of twice. But yes, you can do them separately if you need to. If you only gear one axle, you will need to pull off the front driveshaft until you gear the other one.

You will also want to consider strengthening the front housing, so look into gussets and sleeves. When the axle is apart for gears/lockers is the time to do this also.

But, as the other dozen threads from the last few days suggest, you should also look into just slapping a ProRock 44 up front and calling it a day...

So break it down and do a little bit at a time. Nothing says you have to do everything at once.

But, umm, you were talking about moving to a front 44, right? That's 3 grand from your local dealership. Then the regear. So I assumed you had some kind of a handle on the costs involved...

Going to 35's, do the ProRock, 5:13's and a AEV ProCal.
