Default Re-gearing thought

Hi all , I'm almost getting my jeep back from the dealers after it being there for almost 3 months since the silly accident, its a 2012 4dr Rubicon, will be installing the 3.5" AEV lift-kit and 35"tires which i purchased couple of days before the accident , that is if all goes well with the car. I just want a thought on the gears if I'm gonna install all this then shall i go to 4.88 or 5.13 , keeping in mind I'm thinking of doing an engine swap to a 5.7 or 6.4 hemi. Any thoughts will be useful , thank you.

alot of people with 5.13s have 11 or older with the 3.8 the 12 has alot more power so you dont need that low of gears

So if i add the extra weight of bumpers and winch and other stuff later on , it will still be ok with the 4.88s .....its a beginner's question sorry

It really comes down to personal preference but I would go with 4.88s if it was mine l.

The 12 is a completely different animal than the prior years. I have read on here abuot people saying you can get away without having to regear with 35s because of the motor making more power and lower gear ratios in the tranny but I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm thinking some had said you don't need to regear, even with 35s but not sure. There is a chart floating around that can be quite helpful but make sure you are looking at the one for the 12. Off the top of my head, I'm guesing you would be fine with 4.56s, but again, not sure. Also, do you have the 3.73 or 4.10s? Don't know if a change from 4.10 to 4.56 would be worth the $1.5K.

Hopefully, someone can fand and post up that chart for ya.

I would have to agree with CJ7, I have reviewed this chart that is floating around and it states that for the '12 the 4.56's is the best all around gear for 35's. This is the gear that I will most likely get.

I think Planman can answer your questions. He made the chart. You may want to PM him regarding this. I have a 2012 Rubi with 4.10s and I am planning on putting my lift and tires on in February. I am going to try the 4.10s for a while before I decide if I need to upgrade. Several have commented they work fine with the 35s.

Good luck with your decision!!
