Rear axleshaft removal
Hey guys,
I purchased the shop manual when I bought my Jeep, and it's got some complicated instructions for removal of the rear axleshafts.
Is it necessary to lock out the parking brake first by removing the center console and messing with the cables?
It says that you cannot reuse the nuts that connect the axle assembly to the housing. Where do I get replacement nuts?
Thanks!
Micah

Locking out the e-brake handle relieves the tension on the cables. It makes reconnecting them possible.
The nuts are available from the dealer.
Some people will respond and tell you there is no need to get new nuts.
It's a warning in the book. I believe in going by the book; especially where warnings are concerned.

I'm thinking I'm going to use new nuts but forget messing with the parking brake. Do you recall how many nuts there are on each side?
In '08, it was $135. Now, it's $199.
The paper 4 volume manual is $320. This price is the same as back in '08.

Some people have not been able to reconnect as long as the tension spring in the lever assembly was pulling on the cables.
I didnt disconnect anything with regards to the e- brake. Everything went back together no problem. Am I missing something or perhaps not understanding what you mean.
