You probably left the backing plate on the housing, and just pulled the shaft and bearings.
I don't know what the OP's intentions are. So, if his task involves disconnecting the e-brake cables, it's best to first pin the tension spring in the lever assembly in the cab.

I'm not understanding this, why are you messing with the brakes on a rear axle shaft install?

Theres a spring just before where the e-brake handle connects.. Pull the cable out of its retainers and you can slip in out of the loop connecting it without a problem.

Congrats on 500 posts!

The thread you showed is the drum brakes. I'm not sure how they work. However, when you remove the rear axleshaft assembly from the housing, the brake rotor assembly is still located on the shaft including the ebrake cable. You might be able to take the rotor off without removing the ebrake cable, but in the service manual it says to remove the brake cable first.

OK, I understand. I was able to remove the rotor from the drum parking brake assembly with messing with the cable.

Thanks on the 500, I didn't even notice. That means I'm a geek or Freak of some kind doesn't it.
