Default Rear Bumper - need for H.D. Coils??

I am playing with the idea of replacing the factory rear bumper with the Rugged Ridge XHD Rear Bumper. In addition, I do have a towing hitch....

My question is whether I will then want to also replace the stock coils with OME H.D. Coils.

I have recently added a front bumper and winch....and as most know - the $500 project is now well over $1,000 due to new coils, different bumper, etc.

Since I have the OME 2.5" H.D. Coils in front my jeep is now level - I don't want neg. rake if I add the rear weight. I also have a 2.5" Spacer lift in the rear - front was removed when I installed new coils.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

Smiley,
I had a similar prob after adding my RR front bumper (no winch) my stock springs couldn't handle the weight and collapsed to the point the bump stops were touching.I have a 2.5" BB installed, removed the front spacer and installed the OME 2.5" HD springs.
I am considering replacing the rear shocks as well(with the OME 2.5), again taking out the rear BB spacer but don't want to get the rake back. The only solution will be to get a front spacer, usually a 3/4" and that should eliminate the rake and get u level again.

The down side is that you will have to drop the front end again

My question is whether I will need to replace the rear factory coils with H.D. coils.

Will the weight of the new rear bumper cause sag?

How much does the trailer weight ?
How much sag do you get with someone in the backseat?
I personally would go for the MD coils. As I dont tow and dont have back passengers often. But like the idea of adding my spare tire to the bumper.
HD coils could have a rough ride. If you dont add weight to the rear often it may not be worth the ride.

I was just trying to relate to ur situation, but yeah. More than likely. The stock springs aren't meant to handle that much weight. Since the RR bumper is much heavier than the stock one, eventually they will fail

OK - next question - am I better off not installing FRONT H.D. coils. I have them and was planning on getting them installed over the holiday. I am wondering if I am better with the small sag from front winch and front bumper in favor for a smoother ride.

How much stiffer will my ride be with H.D. front coils assuming 200lbs over stock on the front end.

I put the HDs on the 4d rubi and the ride is GREAT. So much better than stock. David will lead you right on. Have not been off road on the trails yet but HiWay and norm. dirt roads you can't beat the ride.

in my opinion, if you have them, install them. i started with a slight front end sag and wound up with this...

the ride with the OME HD shocks is much better, and probably less damaging, than what happened to mine. if youre concerned about the rake, id order a 3/4" spacer before you install the springs, then install all 4 at once.

personally i dont mind the rake, i really dont want it, but considering what i would have to do to correct it, ill live with it!

Thank you for the thoughts and comments! The springs will be installed....and we will continue to spend the $$$ on other changes!

It is just so expensive to implement it just to tear it off a week later!

Have a Merry Christmas....
