actually, the stock bumper and tire carrie will hold a 35 inch tire just fine. If you bought aftermarket rims, then it will bolt right up. if your spare is on a stock rim you will need to buy a wheel spacer of 1.25" thickness. but thats it. tons of us here on the forum are running 35's on the stock carrier with stock bumper and have absolutely no issues whatsoever. Including me. Good luck

On my TJ, I just trimmed the rubber pads down to make room for the fatter spare tire....and added a riser made of copper pipe to the third brake light to space it up over the tire. It cost about $1.25 to do it.

Not sure what the JK looks like back there, but it seems to have more room...I had to do the above to mount a 33".

other than spacing the wheel out a bit with a wheel spacer, there is no trimming, adjusting etc.

A wheel spacer is like $50.

Does the tire rest against the metal, hang in the air, or rest against stops?

You certainly do find all the good deals, lol , but if you're running a 35x12.50 on the stock carrier you will still need the wheel spacer.

the cheap ones from the autoparts stores for a couple bucks won't be thick enough or safe enough to carry the spare tire. you need one that bolts on to the carrier and has separate studs sticking off of it to bolt the tire onto that. Spidertrax spacers will run you a pretty penny as they are arguably the best and are only sold in pairs. Ebay spacers you can find four around 80 bucks for a pair and you can sell the extra one here on the forum to someone else who only needs one for their spare tire, or you can find someone here who is doing just that and buy it from them.. BUT!!!! you probably don't even need to do that. if you baught new rims then it will just bolt right on. the only way you could fit a 35 on your jeep is if you made the wheels stick out farther, either by adding those spacers to each wheel, or by buying aftermarket rims that just stick out farther. So, did you buy five new rims? if so, then just go right again and bolt that tire on the back... it will fit!

So i just read your signature saying that you baught cragar soft 8s... this means you did buy aftermarket rims, and there for all you have to do is bolt the wheel on the tailgate. No Spidertrax spacer, no ebay spacer, no autoparts spacer. Just put it on, yes it will fit. The tire will touch the plastic bumper but this seems to be a good thing as it helps support the weight of the tire and keeps it from jiggling over bumps. Congrats, you don't have to spend any more doe

the tire hangs in the air, no longer touches the stops, but so far nobody has had any problems with this. Myself included.

So even replacing the studs with longer ones would work too?

(To allow room for the OEM BS rim with wider section width tire to be seated, and tightened down?)
