The eyes of the skull on the Riddler cover are on the same level of the stock D44 fill hole. You can use it as reference point.

Maybe my count was off, it just seems as though I did not get enough in, but it sounds like I did because the level is "on the level" according to everyone. Thanks for the quick replies fellas! JOE>

Default Where to measure?

OK, I’m still perplexed on how much 75W90 to put in my front (D30)and rear (D44) diffs, as I’m installing new Riddler diff covers soon. I understand that stock volumes are 1.35 quarts for the front, and 2.375 quarts for the rear, but realize that the shape of the Riddler covers come into play. I’m focusing on getting the right LEVEL of oil and not so much the AMOUNT, but do not want to have too little or too much.

Plan on using a bent zip-tie to serve as a dip stick when filling, but need to know where to set my mark. From what I have read, the oil should be ¼ inch higher than the bottom of the axle tube. Would appreciate confirmation or comments.

I changed my D30 diff cover over a week ago with the PSC bombshell cover with lubelocker & painted and installed. I added approximately 1.62 quarts of Amsoil 75w-140 synthetic. Turned out nice so I ordered the rear D44 PSC BOmbshell and painted yesterday and installed this evening with a lubelocker. I bought the Amsoil on line but bought my rear diff at AUto Zone... They didn't carry the AMSOIL so I bought the Lucas H/D performance 85w-140... This isn't synthetic... And I added I think a little too much oil. I estimate 2.875 quarts. Does anyone see a problem with the oil or the quantity of oil that I put in either diff? I don't want to be spewing oil all over but I thought that I had read that the rear took about 3 quarts. Started reading some posts and some say 2 quarts... Some say use an additive...just don't know. By the way I waited almost two months to get the new PSC B/S cover but they look great installed. Was definitely worth the wait.

Putting a number to the quantity is kind of useless, as people report different amounts to bring the level to the fill hole on a stock cover.

If you have an aftermarket cover, add oil until it's at a level a little over the bottom of the axle tube.

Here is where the stock fill hole will put the oil level as it relates to the axle tubes.
Just make sure you bring yours to the same level. A bent zip tie makes a great dip stick.

When I installed my ARB diff covers I used Redline synethic, 1 qt. up front (D30) & 1.75 in rear (D44). Before I mounted the new covers, I marked the dip sticks with the stock overfill holes to get the correct fluid level. I have LSD in rear, but did not use the additive because the Redline states on the bottle that it has the additive in it.
