Default rear differential temperature

Anyone know what an average range of temperature is acceptable for a rear differential. After regearing and installing an arb locker i have noticed the rear end feels pretty warm and i measured the temp the other day and it was around 160. Is this normal?

I'm just curious did you measure the rear diff fluid temperature? If you did what did you use to measure it with? Meat thermometer??? I'm not trying to be smart or anything I just wondered hey what did he use to do that?

I didn't actually measure the diff fluid i measured the diff cover. I have a temp gun from when i was into rc cars so i just measured the temp of the metal.

That explains it! I have seen those with the heat and air guys from maintenance. They just shoot a vent and it reads the temp very handy.
