I wanted these because:
  1. As much as I like no doors, others in my family don't so tube doors are a compromise.
  2. adding an easily removed enclosure doubles the time i can run them.
  3. Any real wheeling i do is at some distance from home, unlike some states, you can't predict the weather 100miles from home based on what it is doing at home.
  4. the soft uppers, and skin would take up a mere fraction of the space to stow, especially important for onboard on a 2dr.
  5. ease of removal due to size/weight.
  6. the obscene price of Mopar half doors.
  7. multiple configuration options.

x2 here... If you look at $2500 for a pair of MOPAR unpainted 1/2 doors, then the $500 for these doors/enclosures looks cheap. The uppers hopefully will be less than $400 so the whole thing will be less than $1000.

One more thing in followup - Someone asked how much they weight. Rear door with bag and enclosure came in at 23 lbs on my bathroom scale. Quite a bit lighter than my full doors, but not a lightweight.

Also, in relation to the uppers, I sent the following email on 5/25/08

Any estimates on when the uppers will be available for the element doors? Are the uppers going to be specific to the element door or will they be the same parts that fit OEM half doors?

And this was the reply

The uppers will only fit the element doors, not the factory doors.
They are scheduled to be available in 1-3 months.

By my estimates, we have already passed 1 month and 3 months will fall around the end of August. Anyone wanna place a wager on whether they hit the release date?

From what I have been hearing about manufactures release dates I bet they will exceed that date by about a month after they are to be out.

Now after seeing the prices it makes me glad that I know how to fabricate and sew. LOL I think I will be making some soft windows that match up to a set of tube doors that I plan on making on my vaction time when I get back to the states. Seeing how the soft doors on the Humvees the military use which is 7/16" round stock that is bent and welded for the structure and covered with the weatherstripping it shouldn't be that hard to make. As for the lower covers on the long distance travels I would make a fiberglass cover to go over the tubes. That way I can take the top windows and Glass covers off and store them in the back. This is all say right now as I haven't gotten around to designing any of it or even gotten the materials yet. When I do start I will be taking pics and posting. This way if I have something that I don't like or it doesn't fit just the right way I have only ONE person to blame....... MYSELF... lol. Well if it is just your wife that thinks your strange hey thats better than me, Almost everyone that gets to know me thinks I am way out in left field by myself talking to myself and then answering myself. Well great job and good luck getting those tops

I am glad someone else is thinking about making some soft doors as well. I have also looked at the Hummvee soft doors and agree that there really shouldn't be anything to fabbing up a similar setup.

I think the hardest part would be the latch system, but even then a simple little hook setup would work.

If I make a set up soft doors I will only be using them if it starts raining while I have the doors off away from home. Definitely post some pics of what you come up with and I will do the same.

Q-Tec has the pricing posted (not sure of availability). The setup will run about $770 for the front pair & $730 for the rear.

Appreciate the post, realized that look just isnt for me. Think Ill go with straight tube doors or keep stock doors on and roll down windows.
