Angry Rear-ended - Need new rear bumper and tire mount recommendations

I'm so happy that I was able to get 3000 miles on my new rubicon unlimted before I was rear-ended on the freeway. NOT! Damn DEA officers on their cell phones. Anyway.....my stock bumper, rear tow hook, spare tire bracket were all destroyed and insurance is going to replace them which should = about $550. Since I was eventually going to replace them with an aftermarket bumper I'm trying to work this out and take this insurance money and get something other than another stock bumper. Hoping a few of you can make some recommendations. My jeep is almost entirely stock except i have the mopar offroad bumper with warn 9.5ti winch on the front so I'd like something that will match with that. The mopar rear bumper with the tire carrier is $1000 and seems pretty high for what it is. I'm an occassional offroader so I don't need an extreme offroad bumper but want something that is quality, can carry a bigger spare if I ever decide to get into more serious trails, and preferrably something that I can somehow attach my hilift jack to. I'm wiling to spend more than the $550 insurance will pay but ideally I'd find something not too expensive.

Thanks in advance!

Darren

WOW... Sorry to hear about that!! That just can't be much fun at all, nonetheless, on a near brand new vehicle . Maybe it's just me, but does it seem like $550.00 for all that seems a little on the low side? . How bad was the impact? Before you settle with their insurance, make sure you have it thoroughly checked to make sure there wasn't any other damage sustained that's not visible. It is not uncommon to have alignment issues or frame issues - which may not be obvious until a later date. Just my .

As far as a good bumper, if you want something that's pretty sturdy and durable, yet relatively inexpensive [and will fit the $550.00 budget you mention], take a look at the Rugged Ridge XHD Rear Bumper. David at Northridge4x4 has it for $464.99 and may be able to give you a good deal on one.

I backed into my little brothers car doing 5 mph.. all I had was a small dent in the plastic. Insurance took care of it and send me a check for $830. I installed the RR XHD Rear Bumper. I love it.. easy to put on and fits body lines very nicely.. go with that! shopjeepparts.com/rear-bumper-200710-wranglers-p-6847.html

Any idea if this bumper will work with the stock tow package?

$550 seems quite low. If I remember right someone on here was quoted over that for just the rear bumper after they were rear ended.

Depending on how much you would like to spend you can't go wrong with the Exp One rear bumper and tire carrier. Beefy as all get out and they were a nice group of people to deal with.

Agreed on looking at the Rugged Ridge XHD Rear Bumper + Carrier. May not be quite as top notch as Expedition One or LoD, but is a very solid setup for a lighter budget. Very happy with mine. And the RR bumper does work with the stock tow hitch.

My X didnt come with a Hitch and neither does the bumper.. when I put the bumper on I also put a hitch in (that I got from the FS section) and it works and looks great!

that sucks man... i just got rear ended yesterday. trashed the frame crossmember ,broke the tire carrier, tweaked the tailgate and bumper. hoping the damage is in the thousands so i can get a bumper tire carrier combo for all my pain and suffering

I was rear ended awhile back, total cost to repair would have been $1800, including new tailgate and paint, new spare tire mount, new rear bumper. I got Interceptor to give me his old tire mount and I only had the gate fixed, so I pocketed a big chunk of money and now I have an Lod rear and tire carrier.

Double check the $550, that's really low.

I agree that the amount seems low. AEV is a great package, although expensive. It works with the factory hitch
