Rear locker not disengaging
Hello. I have used my lockers in the past with out issues, b4 my new lift and gears, but it seams that my rear locker is stuck on...I just had new 5:13 gears installed a few days ago along with my lift, I put my lockers on for a few sec's this morning to crawl up a snow mound to check rear tire clearance...took less than 5 min, tried to disengage lockers and the rear does not want to disengage..Drove around the snowy parking lot for some time hoping it would stop flashing, didn't work, put it back in 2wd and drove a bit on the snow...still wouldn't stop flashing. any ideas? could my new gears have anything to do with it...Worst case scenario, the snow is starting to melt
is it ok to drive it on the street w/only the rear locker on to take it to a shop? could it b because my jeep wasn't warmed up all the way yet?
Thanks<
Brian

If you just got your 5.13's installed, there is most likely a build up of metal shavings inside your diff and this is causing your dog clutch to stick in place. If you've already got 500 miles on them, drain your gear oil, pull off the diff cover, and thoroughly spray down your locker with brake cleaner. Then, when you fill back up, make sure to use a good synth lube in the lighter variety 75W90 as opposed to 140. If you use a dino lube, add friction modifier to help loosen things up.
Update:
I drove around in 4w low for about 10 min....no lockers on again. The rear does not flash anymore, thought that the problem was fixed, but now the Front blinks. Not the normal blinking while engaging or disengaging, but it will blink once..maybe wait a few sec and then blink 3 times...stop for a while...then blink a few more times. Does this in 2wd as well. I haven't see this b4 anyone else? Also...really don't have many miles on the new gears..thanks
Brian
BTW when I make tight turns it doesn't feel like the locker is engaged, everything feels normal, but the front locker light is still blinking on occasion...not sure if I should drive on drive pavement or not. Thanks

If your front locker will not disengage, do not drive your Jeep on pavement as it will break. If you cannot get it disengaged, open up the fill plug on your diff cover locate the thin metal dog clutch disk and pry it over to the right with a small screw driver. This will disengage your locker and you will be able to drive on pavement without any worries.
hmm....do you think it is still engaged? Light stoped blinking...I think. It was blinking once/twice like every 30 sec...I took it on wet/slushy pavement...didn't feel like it was engaged...no binding or anything when I turned the wheel ect...but now its not blinking anymore, I don' think anyways. Hopefully I didn't/won't break it, what do you think?

Check out this thread about the same problems your having...
It seems the locker sensor and or plates are real sensitive and if not installed right, or bent a little, they will not work right.
There is a mixture of people with and without gears having the problems.

Your locker should work whether the jeep is warmed up or not too.. so, I'd definitely get it checked.
