Default Rear lower control arm and driveshaft relation question.

One quick question...

When lifting a JK, the rear axle seems to want to move forward a little bit due to the fixed control arms. A way to fix that problem is to get adjustable lower control arms.

Here is the question...

Since you are now re-centering the rear axle, does the driveshaft itself "extend" the 1/2"-1" you need to re-center?

first off, you only need to extend your rear lowers about an 1/8" inch to compensate for a 3"-4" lift. needless to say, it's really isn't that much. and, being that your driveshaft actually compresses the taller you go, extending your control arms would help bring it back to where it was.

actually when i get my teraflex arms i will be moving the rear axle back as far as i can. i believe it will be close to 2". and if you look at the rock krawler stuff they say it moves the rear axle back a 1" i think.

you can do this but you have to remember that the adjustable end should be threaded into the arm 5 to 8 threads or the thickness of the end. this way you have a good bite on the end.

i have to wait to get them but i think i might set them up to where i want them then put a tack weld on the jam nut and arm itself to keep it from backing out.

you can do this but you should know that your rear track bar will come into contact with your coils. there are other rubbing or contact issues you might have as well.

Only 1/8"? The pinch seem on the body seems awfully close to the tires I have on, and they are only 285s (33s).

that's what i have mine set at and i'm running 37's. anymore and you will have other issues like your track bar hitting your coils or your tires hitting your rear bumper and back of your fender wells. oh, i should mention that i have my pinch seam corners cut off. however, i was running 35's like this and without any problems.

It just "looks" off. Why I thought it would've been a bit more. Since I hacked the fenders and pretty much have flat fenders, I HIGHLY doubt I'll go any higher than what I am now. I am damn sure I can stuff 35s with no problems, even with full flex. Should I get fiexed, longer, arms or just go adjustable and get it over with.

looking at this pic, i can tell you that you really do just need to go a bit longer than stock. when i was running 35's, i had made my arms about 1/4" longer than stock and the tread started to rub on the rear bumper and catch the edge of the fender pants at a full stuff. i suppose if you do some trimming, you might be able to move things back even more. just remember, your axle travels in an arc and not just straight up and down.

well i am not worried about the rear bumper as mine is no where near the tires....

and actually i have a good bit of space to the track bar. like i said i want to take it as far back as possible, that would be one of the limiting factors. actaully at full flex my passenger side coil rubs the gas tank!!!!

here is my bumper... sorry only side shot i have with the 35's
