Default Rear tailgate strut/stopper?

Hello all,
I have been debating on putting one of these in my JK for a while. It gets drilled onto the back tailgate, to help keep it opened, when loading and unloading cargo into the rear.
My question is this:

There are two available, one is a gas strut, the other is a manual locking arm. Does ANYBODY have one of these on their JK,,,,and if so,,,,how do you like it,,,,,and which one do you have?

Thanks everybody!

i have the gas strut and it works great and its easy to install. i think the mechanical one would be a pain as you would have to lock it everytime.

I have the strut on the tailgate..ordered the parts myself (with inspiration from this thread: Tailgate shock project Done!! ). It works very well and cost in the neighborhood of $30 if I remember right.

Some are selling this solution as a kit on this forum as well but all the required parts are listed in the thread and they come from McMaster-Carr right in NJ.

McMaster-Carr parts:
9416K192 - Gas Shock 30LBS
9512K93 - Ball Mount Hardware (longer for inside the rig)
9512K92 - Ball Mount Hardware (shorter for the tailgate)

I just installed the Brett Woods gas strut one on my Jeep. I like the hidden bracket on the tailgate for the reinforcement. Also, he has a new version of the bracket that's a lot easier to install than the old bracket. It works very well.

Here's a link - http://www.jeepswag.com/

If you do a search on Woods tailgate shock or Jeepswag, there's a ton of information on the forum.

The other thing I liked about the Woods tailgate shock kit compared to most of the others, was that the brace allows the tailgate attachment to mount behind the plastic trim piece giving it a very factory appearance.
