Default Recommendations for Rocker rails / sliders to use as step instead of stock

I have a 2010 Sahara with the factory side steps, which do nothing but make my pants dirty when I try to get in. The factory units stick out too far and do NOT really help that much as a step. So I was considering on getting some rocker guards which may be able to be used as a step as well. After much searching I am more confused than ever. I am looking for a unit that sticks out about 1/2 as much as the factory unit does.

The short winner appears to be JK Rock sliders by Shrockworks.

The problem is that I am unable to tell from the pictures, how far out the rock rails stick out. I am looking for some recommendations and / or pictures (Top down) that shows how far out the rock rails stick out.

And how well they work as a side step. The Jeep is my daily driver and only gets out a few weekends a year for some mild trail use. No crazy rock crawling for me. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Ive got the OR- Fab rock rails. They work real nice and also work pretty good as a step. I think their around $400 or so. I pt them on by my self fairly easy in about 3 hours. No drilling on the body, just drilling out the holes on the pinch seam, and they bolt on to the pinch seam, really easy

I bought the Rugged Ridge side armor/side steps for my Jeep and they are probably the best investment I made so far. They function great as a step, a place to kick snow and mud off your feet, and are very strong. I have a roof rack, so it works great as a place for me to step up and put stuff on top of the Jeep. The textured powdercoat finish is extremely durable and non-slip. I recommend them. Great product.

Oh yeah, and they work great as a door ding prevention. Sometimes armor around town is just as helpful as armor on the trails. There is a 2dr version as well.

Stay away from Olympic if you care about paint on the top side, i can understand the paint being ground off on the bottom side, but mine are 1yr old and rust is everywhere. Although they are real solid.

Those look really good. How easy is it to get in and out without your legs hitting the rails on the way inside? It looks like those have a nice size as far as sticking out is concerned.

Thanks for that. I was looking at the olympic slider unit, but have read that there is some lack of quality there.

If I'm going to spend the $$ to upgrade perfectly good parts, I may as well get something that is going to last a while. Thanks for the recommendations so far, keep them coming.

ACE Engineering. Fast shipping, great price and took 40 mins to install. They are frame mount and require no drilling, you do have to grind the washers a bit. But that's no big deal. They stick out almost as far as the rear fender to maintain the lines of the jeep and not get caught on stuff when wheeling.
