Default RedRockFab finish question

I'll start this thread off by saying that this is in no way meant to bash Red Rock Fabrication.

I ordered and received RRF's pre-runner winch mount bumper. It mounted up great and the fit is superb. I think it's a really great looking bumper. My problem is with the powder coat finish. I've had the bumper for approximately 1.5 months and noticed rust starting around the welds. I have a few very small nicks on it as well, and they're starting to rust. In my opinion this shouldn't be rusting yet. It hasn't been exposed to salt.

So...I'm going to have to bite the bullet on this one. I refuse to have it shipped out to them for remedy. Should I just take it to a powder coater? Will a decent powder coat hold up better?? Should I just paint it myself?

Is this typical of powder coating?

It's only the powdercoat I have a problem with. It's really disheartening that it's rusting already in areas that haven't been scuffed up.

I have the same bumper and I really love the look and the build, mine is only a month or two old and it is also starting to rust around the clevis mount and a spot on the pre runner bars

At least I'm not the only one. Misery loves company.

powder coat sucks no matter who coats it,,, especially living in the northeast with road salts

2 months is rather quick, i would'nt waste my time having it recoated. Just paint it and call it good.

I have had the same bumper for well over a year and have not had ANY rust issues. I would contact them. When I bought my bumper from them they were more than responsive and friendly to my questions and concerns.

I'd also agree with the suggestion that you just do a little sanding and use a spray can with anti-rust paint.

I wheel in the rocks and end up with rock rash all the time. No powdercoating can hold up to this. I end up sanding around the rock rash and touch-up painting several times a year. It is really no big deal. It's just part of wheeling a jeep in the rocks.
I agree I don't mind touching up places where I cause damage to the powdercoat but this is from poor coating from Red Rock or who ever they have coat them.

I do plan on cleaning and painting the bumper but I have rust on almost every weld on the bumper and I really didn't want to spend the time to repair the bumper this quickly after installing it.

I'm not sure I agree with this statement. Ever seen Shrockworks Semi Gloss Powder Coat? Definitely doesn't suck.
