Regear in colorado
hey fellow jeepers i am looking to move up in gears from a auto 3.73 to 4.88s where is a good place in the denver/colorado springs area to get gears and install for a reasonable amount? where did you go and how much did yall pay? thanks
I live in Utah, and after pricing several people, I had my dealer do the install. It did not void my warranty that way, and the install went smooth and enjoy my new 4:88's. Total cost with parts was $1400.00. I had quotes as high as $1700.00 in the local area.
how much did the labor cost you?
I'm seriously debating a regear too and would be curious if anyone has any outstanding shop reviews for gears in the Denver/Boulder area.
Spruce4x4 is a shop I've gone to since I had my XJ, and now JK here in Boulder and they've always done great work at a fair price. I've yet to get a quote on a gear install, but can certainly check and post the answer.

I'm not a gear expert, but from my experience I'd say you'll want to regear with 3.73s and 35s for CO. I live in Boulder and my tires measure a true 33" and I have 4.10s. My setup does fine around town, decent highway, and is pretty sluggish on hills. I'm planning to regear before long.

If you head down to the Springs, check with Avenger and Crazy Ed's. Both do good work.
A service guy at the dealership actually sent me to Avenger when I was looking into Rubi axle swaps. He said that he sends a lot of their drivetrain work to avenger, and has no problems with warranty work on vehicles done by them. (at least that was the case a year and a half ago...)
