Default Regear to increase acceleration

I have the 3.73 gears with stock wheels and tires and my jeep is a dog. I realize it is not a race car, but if I rear would that increase my acceleration? Would it do anything to my shift points - i.e. right now 1st gear is good till about 10 to 15mph if I regear will 1st only be good for 5mph to 10 mph now?

3.73's and stock size tires? be glad you've got that, and not the 3.21's like me.

This horse has been beaten post mortem 100's of times. Do a search and you'll find a lot of info.

As some one that has been doing a lot of reading about this since getting 265/70R17 put on my X with 3.21 gears.... I can only say you must have an auto :P

I added a good inch and a bit to my tire height and god knows how much extra to the rolling resistance over the little stockers I had before. And I can still use 6th for city driving waiting to get a scan gauge 2 to see what my mpg is at though.

How many miles have you got on it? I have the same setup and mine got a lot better at about 3000 miles.

Actually I have a manual with about 2k on it right now. What is a scan 2 gauge? And I looked at some of the other threads and I am still not sure if regearing on stock tires will increase my acceleration. I get it that you need to do it for bigger tires. But I'm more worried about acceleration and my first gear being useless as it will only be good for 5mph?
