Default Regear and leaking fluid

I regeared and have about 120 miles on the new gears. Today I drove considerably further than any other trip (25) miles. When I got home I noted fluid leaking on the drive way. Fluid was under the driver side fender-well and and leaking from under the jeep where it ran down. I traced the leak to a small hose that comes from the differential and up on the back side of the shock. It is capped off.

Question is, is this just bleeding off or do I need to get this in ASAP. I added the SOLID diff covers so they hold more oil.

thanks

if I am not mistaken, thats one of the breather tubes. that just means you may have overfilled your diff when adding fluid.

Likely the cause! Just crack open your fill plug and let the excess run out. Fluid should come just to the top of the opening so you can feel it if you were to stick your finger in the hole.......um, yeah....don't know how to word it any other way!

Always a good idea to clear your breather tubes once in awhile.

Not to change the threads direction but on cleaning the breather, I previously owned a F-250 and my front breather clogged up which inturn blew out my axle seals so it is definetly a good thing to clear the breathers out.

regeared and put on solid axle covers last month... was leaking just under the rear right tire... pulled axle back out and realized I pinched the axle seal... ten dollar part and a easy fix.. hopefully its just an overfill though!!

Well I will try to check that in the am.... i will be taking it back to the shop for them to check out... Seems a lill much for that much oil to come out. Thanks for the help, however, if someone else has something feel free to comment!

i see that you have a rubicon, that tells me that you have a d44, if it was filled to the fill plug it is too much and is bleeding out. a d44 holds about 2 qts i put 2 1/4 in mine with no adverse affects. go to project jk (link at top of page) go to write ups, there is a write up on SOLID diff covers and tells you how much oil you need. You are sadly mistaken when you posted that solid diff covers hold more oil,(they will hold more) but you shouldn't put more, the oil will either come out of the breather tube like yours is doing, or it will create a foam or frothy action resulting in the oil not performing like it should. LOOK under your front diff, there is a drain plug you could either drain it and put new oil or catch it and fill to what it needs to be. More likely than not the other housing is overfilled also.
