Default Regear price question

to a quote of $1700 out the door to regear to 4.10, new front carrier etc for both axles. Is this a good price? Seems reasonable to me but just wanted to ask for some advice. Thanks for the help

That's not too bad. Prices vary wildly by region.

That price is on the high side, but more importantly, why would you pay that much for 4.10s? Even assuming you have 3.21, the difference isnt going to be worth it.

Also, if you regear, have lockers installed.

I paid about $550 for my gears and master overhaul kits form 4ws.com and about $900 for labor at a local shop. So about 1,450 total and that's as cheap as it gets here in the northeast where I am. I also didn't need the front carrier.

I was quoted $1,800 here in Vegas. Im thinking about driving out to Off Road Evolution and having them do it. Takes 2 days and they are running a special of $999.99 installed. Plus they know their stuff. I would save money even after paying for gas and a small vacation while they do the install.

x2. I paid $800 out the door for my first regear in Texas, about $1600 for the second regear in Colorado. A few shops are offering the $999 deal, and some folks (mainly east coast and upper northwest from what I have seen) complain about $2500-$3000 quotes. Judge the prices in 'your' area by the prices in 'your' area, not against what the high volume shops in different states offer.

It also would not be a bad idea to talk to all of the local shops, compare the warranties, and get references from other jeepers. A local 4x4 club would be a great source on which shops are better/worse than others.

As noted above, this is a great time to think about adding traction. Saves on labor costs from having to rip the axles apart a second time.

The other option to consider, depending on your budget and needs, would be to find a set of take-off rubicon axles and just selling your stock 30/44.

The reason for the second regear was the rushed half-assed job on the first regear.

One of his local jeep clubs endorses his work, so I have taken my experience as a one-off and have not tried to sink him on the forum, but I won't promote his business.
