Default Regearing

Hey guys, got my lift and tires on. Im going to regear now. I called the shop and the guy i talked to said i needed a new carrier for the front (dana 30). Its a x model. Is this true? What are you guys paying for 5.13's? One more thing, he said if i wasnt feeling any vibes i shouldnt worry about drive shafts. Its a FT 3" econo lift. Thanks for any help.

What gears do you have right now? If you have 3:21's, then yes, you will need a new carrier for the front D30. If you have 3:73's, then you won't need to change the carrier.

I paid $1224.00 for parts, labor, fluids, warranty. That's a little on the cheap side. Normal price runs anywhere between $1200-$1800 depending on your area, shop, etc.

Yeah - 3.73 is the cut point...3.73 and up use the same carrier.

For a 3" on a 2 dr....yeah, you might be ok on the drivetrain...but you're at the cusp.

BTW - when you re-grear - and the diffs are open..THAT"S when you want to throw a locker in...all the labor is already being done to re-gear.....so, its just adding the cost of the lockers them selves.

At least ONE locker if you can swing it.

I went with an arb air locker in the rear just because my limited slip had some chipped gears in it and they said it would eventually go. I haven't used it yet but im pretty excited.
