Bottom line, I have more than just a hammer, screwdriver and a crescent wrench. I have a huge 6' craftsman tool chest full of tools. What I was wondering was if this is a driveway project like a lift installation is. If its a simple procedure. There's not write ups on it from what I've seen, but now I know its more involved if you need meters and what not. I was hoping it would be as easy as taking off the dif. Cover and swapping out a couple parts, then putting cover back on. I see its not that easy. Thanks for the info
Call a few shops and they will refuse to do it. That's how you know it's a little more complicated than most. Get it done by someone that does em all the time! Or follow that awesome writeuo and hope for best

if you're not comfortable diving into an engines internals, swapping a transmission, swapping input shafts on a transfercase, then don't even think about gears. I've done all of the above except for engine internals and I'd likely never attempt a regear. Requires more specialized tools that a 6'craftsman tool chest likely doesn't have. Dial indicators, case spreaders, lots can go wrong, really wrong. My opinion, but doing gears make installing a bolt on lift kit with all 8 adjustable arms look as hard as honking a horn or winning at cards with my brothers kids.

Sent from some string and a few tin cans.

As far as pulling the cover and swapping parts, a lunchbox locker can be done in your driveway. Gears and full case lockers, not so much.
Wow....This write up is great but the procedure looks and sounds difficult....After reading it I'm not to sure I would like to try it but I would hate to trust a shop only to have them half ass it or screw it up and charge me. There are not a lot of Jeepsters here in RI so getting feedback on shops is difficult. After reading that Punisher build I really don't want to get scammed by a shop that is learning on my jeep. If anyone is gonna screw it up and learn on my rig I'd rather it be me.
