Default Regearing Question

I have 3.21 gears and I am looking to regear to 4.56. I know the D30 needs to have a carrier replacement. But what about the rear D44?

The carrier in the d44 is good for all gear ratios. It is only the D30 with 3.21's that needs a different carrier.

The JK Dana 30 will require the carrier change like you mentioned, but the non-Rubicon rear Dana 44 will use the same carrier for all the gear sets. Hope that helps.

Beat me to it! You will need the standard gear install stuff however (master install kit, etc).

Congrats on your switch to 4.56, I recently went from 3.21 to 4.56 on 34" BFG KM2's and they're a perfect match, tremendous power and acceleration upgrade

Couple things to consider than just hearing I have 35s and this gear ratio is great. What year is your jeep (3.8 or 3.6), auto vs manual, heavy or light build, are you going to larger tires eventually, and what do you use your jeep for?

I personally just regeared my 3.8 2dr manual with 35 km2 and lighter bumpers and don't plan on going larger. I went from 3.21 to 4.56 and it is great for my DD. I run on the interstate daily so 4.88 would have been too much for me but would have been even better in 4Lo. Have you seen the hearing charts? They get posted all over the place or just google "jeep jk gearing chart".

Hope this helps, it is one of the best mods that you will do!!

3.8 // 07 // 6 speed manuel.JKU. 35" heavy bumpers front and rear. 11,000 winch.. I was wanting the 4.88 because i pull a trailer with my SxS on it, at least 2 weekends every month 2 hours one way on highway. And i pull a loaded 12' inclosed for work a good bit.

4.88 would be a good decision with your towing, some will even say go with a deeper gear than that.
