Default Regearing question, sorry

I have a 2013 JKU with 3.21 gears. Even though I have a 6-speed and only have 33" tires, performance is extremely irritating, borderline unacceptable. At highway speeds (65 mph), driving into head winds is enough to cause my Jeep to struggle maintaining speed. The slight hills on our Oklahoma highways are enough to slow me down. Even in 5th gear, a highway hill into head winds will cause me to lose speed.

I'm tired of losing 10 mph on the highway in front of other cars. I'm tired of feeling like I'm pulling a trailer everywhere I go. I'm tired of feeling like I'm driving a mid-90s Honda Civic up a hill with three friends inside and the a/c blasting.

So, here are my questions.

1. I keep seeing G2 gear packages, are these a good brand? Any brand you'd recommend instead?

2. I have the standard D44 in the rear and a D30 up front. I'm going to 4.56 gears, would I need a new carrier for the rear or just the front?

3. My plan is to move up to 35s, does anyone here run 4.56s with 33s? What's your performance like? I drive mostly highway when on road, but rarely faster than 65 mph, so losing top end speed isn't a huge concern unless it happens at 50 or some crap.

If you could, would you please number your answers accordingly with my questions? For easier following.

Thanks!

Check out the gear charts. 35's and 4.56 will put you up there in rpms. I am still
Torn between 4.10 and 4.56 for 35's

all gears basically come out of the same factory to each vendor specifications, Korea I think....anyway, I have Nitro, no issues.

With the 3.6 auto, 4.56 is good on 35's, with manual not sure but I often hear 4.10's are fine, 4.56 will get your 6th gear rpms higher but don't know how much and may make 1st too low. Also check compare the RP for 4.10 and 4.56 on the D30, you don't want to make it thinner

Don't rely on the chart too much, run the numbers on your gears. I found the chart for my 2010 to be incorrect and glad I did not put in the recommended gears

Hey fellow okie! My 2012 has 33s and 3.21s with an auto and I'm in the same boat as you.. Mine isn't too bad but if I'm on the interstate doing Anything over 70 I can't keep it from going in and out of overdrive.

I've seen the charts and that combo would put me right in the color code for being a perfect daily driver that gets dirty in the weekends.

I've seen other people here report that they're maintaining their 20~ mpg with this setup. I'm averaging about that now, a little less now that I'm lifted, but would love to remain getting this "decent" mpg.

I'm sorry, but compare the RP? Maybe I'm tired, but I'm not sure what this means.

Where at in Oklahoma are you? I'm on mobile so I can't see, if you even have it listed at all. Are you part of Red Dirt Jeeps or Oklahoma Jeepers?

Ring and Pinion, as your gears get lower (higher number) the pinion shaft size gets smaller as they squeeze more teeth on it. The D30 will be your weak link in this case depending on how hard you wheel it and how low a gear you go.

for my JK, 2010 Auto, the RP at 5.13 and lower was too narrow for my liking which is why I went with 4.88's I also wanted balance on all shift points and still want the option to lock out OD when I'm towing a trailer.

Which is why I recommend you do the math on your gears and use the chart with caution. it's a chart made up by a member and while it's a good reference point, you should run your own numbers and evaluate how you plan to use it. Lower gears (higher number) you trade off top end, gain low end but on a manual you may lose 1st gear as it gets too low (good if only for off-road, not for DD) you'll also reach your higher RPM limits at lower speeds.

It's a balancing act but with the correct gears you'll improve performance on and off road.

I have a 2013 JKU Sport, 6 speed manual, 33" Duratracs, and G2 gears in 4.56. I have over 4000 miles on the setup and I really like it. 4.56 is a little deep for 33" but I plan on going to 35" and it will be fine.

The performance is great. First is usable but you shift fast. Great power. It's great cruising again and passing on the highway. Lots of hills in my area and I have no problems maintaining speed.

I do 2700 rpms at 70. Gas mileage there is no better than 17. Faster and it drops. At 75-80 I get 14.5-15.
