You need a quick jerk with some power to it, the FSM says you might have to resort to a slide hammer-type puller and a rag to protect the knob.. Good luck!

Good grief, how hard do I need to pull? I've tried pulling to an extent, but was afraid I was doing it wrong .... So, pull hard, don't whack self in face. Got it. How hard is it to put a new one on or even this one back on? If it's that hard to get off I can't imagine what it's like getting it, or a new one back on .....

I pulled mine as hard as i could. got in some very awkward positions in the jeep to get at it. and it would not budge...

at all.

maybe in the 2010's like stated above there is a clip somewhere inside of it. maybe not... maybe mine is special. i had multiple friends also try. and it would not just "pull off"

twist pull or any sort of pull.

I removed mine about two weeks ago. Twisting it was key to getting it off. It was a piece of cake once I used a Craftsman strap wrench.
