Default Removing stock front bumper?

I'm interested in doing this. Not a fan of all the plastic. I've already removed my front air dam and am wondering if I can simply remove just the plastic bumper itself, leaving the recovery hooks and fog lights in place?

Has anyone done this? Pictures would be great thanks.

Fog lights won't stay, but you can leave the tow hooks. Other than that just get under there and remove 6 or 8 bolts, can't remember.

Is that legal in your state? It's not here in PA, ask me how I know...

Not to hijack your thread but, my wife just bumped into someone in our JK the other day. I was wondering the same thing since there seems to be a nice chunk of metal under there. If I get spunky this weekend I might pull mine off and take a look. She crinkled the little plastic bumper on the drivers side anyway. Positive part is, now I have an excuse to start ripping into the JK with my trusty makita! Red's fenders, here we come!

Cheers

Its just a stubby metal bumper when the plastic is removed. Does that mean other stubby bumpers are illegal in PA?

I replaced my stock bumper and it took me 10 minutes to remove the bolts...

I followed the instructions here: Project-JK.com - Jeep JK Wrangler Resource » LoD Jeep JK Wrangler Signature Series Shorty Front Winch Bumper Installation Write-Up

The OP says nothing about leaving the metal backing plate on the Jeep. Only "leaving the recovery hooks and fog lights in place".
