Default Reverse install of shocks?

Hey all, quick question for ya. I see a number of posts on the boards where it looks like folks flip the front shock for a reverse install (shock res is closest to the ground). I just installed some new shocks the other week and got to wondering about this. Is this the way that the shocks come from the factory or are folks flipping them at install time. If the latter, what the thinking behind this mod? Thanks.

Thanks all. Just wasn't sure if there was some reason folks were modding their shocks or if they were factory specific that way. Thanks!

I just installed a set of Bilsteins and the instructions say they can go either way.
