Default Ring and pinion question....

As some know I got stuck with 3.21 gears and wanted 3.73's. I have found a few sets of used 3.73's for sale...ill keep looking for 4.10's though as well, as an option. Ive changed out several of my mustangs gears and never had to change the carrier a lot of people keep talking about. So with that said on my 2012 JKU with 3.21's what would i need to install 3.73's from say a 2009 and up JKU besides install kits, ring bolts, fluid and the norm? Do I need to get a 3.73 or 4.10 carrier?

You're going to need a new carrier. Once you go 3.73 or lower the carrier is the same for all gear ratios up to 5.38. So once you get a new one you can get whatever gears you want.

You still have to set up everything even when you don't have to change the carrier right? Is it that much easier to do it without having to change out the carrier?

So, I have an 07 unlimited x, that I'm gonna assume has 3.23, But how do I make sure it didnt come with the tow package and 3.73? I bought it used so I dont have an owners manual. Thanks and sorry for the semi thread jacking.

Thanks for the quick reply. Since it was either 3.23 or 4.10 in the 07 I'm almost guaranteed to have 3.23 judging by driving with 35s. So is it just the front carrier I need to replace? Secondly suggestions on where to get one?
