Ripp / Codes Help needed Asap
As luck would have it, we're to head out for EJS Tuesday and today the JK decided it's not happy.
I installed a Ripp a few weeks ago and had it tuned last week. It had been running really well until this afternoon; I have about 800 miles on the kit.
I backed it out of the garage to clean it up. When I went to pull it back in, it didn't want to start; had to crank about a dozen times before it would fire.
It was missing and basically nonresponsive to the throttle. Got the Engine Light and the Red Lightning Bolt. Checked the codes and they are
P0335 Crank Position Sensor
P2138 Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 1/2 Correlation (what's that mean?)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I do not have the RIPP SC but I did throw the same code when my crank position sensor whent out, I finally got it cranked and it drove like it had dropped 3 cyl., but I went and picked up the part at my local Jeep dealer for $27 and had them put it in, the longest part of the install was waiting for the cats to cool down. BTW, there was another Jeep there waiting for the same thing to be done, and they said that they had replaced about 10 of them so maybe its just a junk part IDK.
Yep, sounds like the crankshaft sensor has gone out and isn't an issue with the RIPP at all. I had one go out on my YJ and it did exactly the same thing as you described. It would just crank and crank and if it did fire it would run lousy and die off again. It was a pretty cheap part to fix if I remember right.
Thanks guys.
I spoke with Ripp a few minutes ago. They had me disconnect the battery and clear the codes; it worked, and the JK seems to be running as it should. The guy at Ripp thought perhaps the box got wet but obviously couldn't know for sure.
He offered to have me send the box and they'd check it out...I'll probably do that when I get back.
I think I'm going to go ahead with the EJS trip because if it is the box I can jump a couple of wires on the Ripp black box and it'll all be bypassed.
For $27 I think I'll pick up a crankshaft sensor as well. Anybody know where it is on the JK?
One thing about these Jeeps is they're never boring! Wish me luck.

I think the sensor was on top of the transmission bell housing in the TJs. I am not sure where it would be at on the JKs but it may be a good place to give a look.
I would still be a bit concerned that it could be your sensor. May want to have it checked/replaced before you go on any long trips since they have a tendency work at one time and not that other.
