Default RIPP Gen1 Problems?

I was wondering if anyone has had problems with the RIPP GEN1 supercharger overheating or shutting down in the heat? I live where its 95 to 100 everyday and dont want this problem if I get one. Thanks

The RIPP kit is completely self-contained meaning it has the oil it needs sealed inside where as most turbos / superchargers are feed oil or coolant or both from the motor. I highly doubt you'll have any issues with the SC failing.

I've had 3 boosted vehicles & currently own a 400hp Dodge Neon SRT-4. I wouldn't dream of running without an intercooler. The charge temps are drastically reduced not to mention the added performance gain from the cooler air being ingested. It can be almost a 40 degree difference.

Older GEN1 kits use a Water Methanol kit to cool the charge temps down - your in Cali and Preston De-Icer is not sold there ... so that potentially could be the problem... You should get the front mounted Intercooler kit at minimum and add it to the GEN1 system... This will allow you to keep the Black Box and remove the Meth kit and deal with the heat. It will also help the CC yaw and some TRD effects the GEN1 had. Other than that you should be good...

Also - we have a really cool BOV silencer for the GEN1 - makes it really livable...

Thank you all for the replies. Sounds like I am going to hold off and by a gen 2 down the road. RIPP, what are the cc yaw and trd effects you are talking about?

GEN1 kits would have a indicative cruise-control yaw - it would slightly accelerate and decel but enough to annoy you and anyone in the vehicle (GEN2 kits only do this slightly). It happens because there is 1) no way to map the CC's scaling and its not mapped for the extra 200cfm of air crossing the throttle body and 2) because JK's have no IAC valve to make small finite air adjustments like those needed during CC. Instead the drive by wire throttle body is left to do all the work.. In short the GEN1 BB kits had an amplified CC yaw.

The TRD or Torque Request Denied, is the unmapped drive train electronics not knowing what to do with the sudden rush of air hitting the plenum and would cut power - This only happened floored, so with a slight lift of the accelerator this would never happen. By installing the FMIC kit on the GEN1, both the CC yaw and TRD would be less evident because the IC and piping would act as an "air shock" giving the ECU time to "deal" with the extra power...

Either way the GEN1 at a supper good deal and FMIC is still a killer kit - if you can scoop it up cheap and update it, your still getting 100hp gain... and you can always update later.
