Smile RIPP Supercharger Install

Installed the kit about a month ago and have close to 500 miles on it at this point. The results are absolutely amazing. Drivability has gone from none existent to whoops don’t need to be going that fast. Once you remove the heavy foot that was once needed to get the beast moving it’s not a problem.

The kit is really a complete kit, it comes with everything you need except the simple tools needed for the install. I was able to install it in under 10 hours at a friend’s house. Nothing is overly complicated; the steps are all easily done by someone who has turned a wrench or two. The hardest part I had was finding the correct wires to splice at the ECU, of course being color blind didn’t help. Other than that no real specialty tools are required. On a side note: The garage door opener is not a hood prop. If you use it as one the hood will fall back and hit the windshield mounted lights putting a dent on each side of the hood similar to the custom door mirror dimples. I wonder if anyone else has done this?

The final result of the install is very clean. It could easily be mistaken for a factory option. I can tell that allot of R&D was put into this kit. The whole experience was not totally free from problems. I did have the controller for the methanol injection fail. I sent the bad unit back and they sent me a new one. Luckily the way the kit is designed all I had to do was set the tune back to 87 mode by flicking a switch and then I could continue to drive without the meth injection.

Just like RIPP has stated it’s truly like there is a nice strong V8 under the hood. If you want to mosey on up to speed then it’s no problem, just lightly press the accelerator. You don’t have to get into boost whether you are at 1000rpm or 4000rpm. If you want to accelerate faster just press the accelerator a little harder and the BOV closes and boost takes you away at a moderate pace. If you want your fat butt pushed into the seat just push the pedal to the floor. But watch out because that little 3.8L roars to life and pulls like mad. No longer do you have to wait to pull out into traffic because there isn’t a break big enough to get up to speed before being run over. You will get looks when people see you accelerate faster than a moped. Those people will see a smile on your face as you easily come up to speed. No longer will you get pissed off looks when you hold some one up trying to get up to speed.

Funny story before ending what sounds like an ad for RIPP. The scenario was I pulled out of a strip mall onto a road with 45mph limit. Looking in my review I saw a car approaching rather fast, as he began to change lanes in order to avoid slowing down I gave it the skinny pedal. By the time the car had changed lanes he was right next to me and we both going about 50ish. I looked over to see the kid driving some riced out import starring at me with a look of disbelief on his face. It was a priceless moment yet again affirming the great power added by the kit.

Here are some pics of the finished product.

Any chance you'll be putting your rig on a dyno to quantify the improvement? If so, would love to hear the results. Thanks!
