Default Rock slide/step combo recomendations

One of the first mods that I want to do to my new JKU is it install new rock sliders. The jeep came with the Mopar chrome package, but I've quickly grown to dislike it so it will be coming off and I'll probably end up selling it. I like having side steps because I have two small kids and it helps them to get in and out, so I was looking at getting a rock rail that doubles as a side step. I was looking at the LoD signature series rock sliders and the Smittybilt SRC rock guards. Any experiences with either of these guards? Any other brand that's similar that you would recommend looking at?

I have the Smittybilts and love them, as do my 4 and 7 year old. Those combined with rear grab handles helps them tremendously getting in and out. The look is nice too.

Did you have any issues with installation? I've read in a few other threads that some people had to do some grinding and some drilling to get them to fit properly.

Yes I did. Just took a grinding bit in my drill and opened one hole up a little. Passenger side went on with no problems. I did these by myself with a set of jack stands in about 45 minutes, even with having to pull drivers side down twice to grind out hole.

Looks like there is a lot of fans of the ace rails. One of the things that I like about the LoD and Smittybilts are the flat platform area by the doors. For those that are running the Ace rails, do you think that it's a big deal that they don't have this? I'm thinking strictly from the point of a 4 & 5 year old. I'm trying to picture if the gap between the body of the jeep and the tube of the step could be something that little feet could slip between.

When I go for the Sliders I am stuck between the LoD, PSC Rocker knockers, and Shrockworks... They are all comparably priced and have all received great reviews from owners.

Great post... I too am in the same dilema. Want to switch out my "running boards" for this and I have little ones that insist on climbing in and out by themeslves... I'll keep my eye on this thread.
