Roll Bar Covering

Is it just me, or does anyone else dislike the roll bar covering?

I don't understand putting chunks of plastic underneath a zip-on cover to give the roll bar a different shape.

I'm thinking about doing something else. Beside the cheap cloth stuff is fading and starting to look crappy.

Anyone done anything with their roll bar covers?

Ideas?

I have bare bones over the pad and stock cover. what does it look like with the pad off and stuff and bare bones?

The biggest issue with going bare bones with taking the cloth cover off of the roll bar is that for a lot of us, Jeep did not paint the entire bar and will have undercoating/primer exposed. My flame red is that way with the top of the rollbar being unpainted and is green.

I took off the covers and all interior plastic trim. Had to paint the back 1/3 of the roll bar. Attachment 213461Attachment 213460

Thanks for the replies.

I saw a cover kit from BestTop, at Quadratec. It looked like a replacement for the factory cloth, only using the BestTop black diamond fabric. That seems like it would be more durable, but its $240.

I was thinking a plumbing supply might have some pipe insulation, or something that could be made to look decent and protect the roll bar from scratches.

Anyone know what size the tubing is? I can't get out to measure mine at the moment.

Ludski did you coat the roll bar with bed-liner?

That might be a good alternative...

Last time I looked into the best top covers, they didn't have if for two doors. I wanted to get it for the waterproof factor.

I saw a thread somewhere where a guy wrapped his with climbing rope. It looked different and was somewhat protected. Good Luck!

Clayton, that looks good in the photos, are you happy with how it turned out?

I think bare bones with some touch-up painting is alright!

Climbing rope? Interesting...or maybe para-cord? Would take a lot...of time and materials.

Thanks. I'm satisfied with it. You can tell it's a home job if you look closely. I ordered the paint from automotivetouchup dot com. It would have turned out better if I used more paint. I only ordered two spray cans, should've gotten four.

If you like the painted look but worry about scratches, you could paint and then cover with the clear 3m adhesive they sell for door jambs and hoods.

I like the idea of rope or paracord. But I'd be afraid of what would happen if it got rained on and kept the rollbars wet.
