Default Rough Ride?

How much difference in 4ply to 10ply tires as far as ride quality with similar tread pattern? It seems there isn't a lot of choices as far as 6 0r 8ply tires to choose from.

Thanks!

It will ride a bit more stiff. While you can air down to alleviate some of the harshness on road, the plies will not flex as much off road. Discussing ride quality is very subjective with many variables. What some consider soft, others may say its harsh. And no matter how soft we try to dial in a jeep, it will never be as plush as a car.

Do you want a durable tire or a good riding tire is what you need to ask yourself. There is a big tradeoff between the two. For me, I prefer durable and went with a 10 ply

Haven't tried 10 ply tires on the JK yet, but experience with other rigs has been crisper steering, more stability, and not that much difference in ride. The biggest penalty is probably weight, but even weight doesn't hurt the ride much with the right springs and shocks. Remember that the stock spring rate, shock rate, and suspension travel were all designed for a light C rated tire. Good quality lift springs and long-travel after-market shocks do a lot to control the ride with heavier tires. Its a system that hasta all work together for good results.
