Question RPM Too High???

I just put 4.88 gears in my 4door X. I put 35's on as well and I am wondering if 4.88's are too much for me. I don't want to blow anything up :-) well at least not my Jeep.

This is also my daily driver and I do travel frequently on the highway. Is 3000 rpm's too much to be cruising on for an extended period?

I am wondering if I should have just gone with the 4.10's.

What do ya think?

cruising at 3000. No matter which side of the harm/no harm side I come down on someone will come up for the other side. SO..... It wouldn't make me happy running that high for extended periods, but actual harm?

But man I can hear your fuel mileage going down from here!

Have you adjusted your speedometer.... I have 5.13's and at 2500 I am well over 70........ or recalculated for the new tires and gears...

What speed are you at, at 3000 rpms........85+

Its best not to be at that high for gas reasons, but I dont think it will hurt too much, just dont go to 45-5000 for a long time...

I have 5:13's with an auto trans. I drive it on the highway daily, and I wish I would have gone with 5:38's

I'm with SGT, how fast are you going? You'd be the first person I've read about with 4.88s and 35s who complained it's too much gear.

You should've asked this question before you spent all that cash!!!

How fast are you driving? My RPM's on 37's are 2500 at 65 mph.

Edit:
Just checked on a gear calculator page, and at 3000 rpms you were running about 76 MPH.

The 3.8 runs alot smoother than the old 4.0, so it likes to rev a bit. If you're worried, just slow down a touch.

If you decide you don't want them, maybe somebody local with 4.10's will switch axle assemblies with you. That would be cheaper and easier than swapping out the gears.

Oh well that just looks stupid when you merge the identical threads! I thought that other thread would just be deleted.

He has to be faster, I have 513 and at 2500 I am at 73 give or take one... I dont agree with most of the gear calculators.....

3000 wth 488 has to be over 80.

Anyone answer this......
