Default Rubber Body Armor Liners - Are they needed?

I'm purchasing the Poison Spyder JK 4-DR Body Armor and was considering the rubber liners. Anyone care to share their opinion on the liners?

Hey Scooby, I've had the body armor with the liners on 2 jeeps. The biggest benefit is it keeps small rocks and gunk from being sandwiched between the armor and the rocker panels, but it's not essential to have. It also keeps water from being trapped as well. They help prevent your paint from getting scratched but once you mount the armor, you'll most likely never remove them unless to repaint or powdercoat. Plus with so many holes drilled into the body, you're pretty much married to them once installed. So it's really a matter of personal preference to use the liners or not. Hope this helps. -Turtle

Thanks Mike. Unless someone talks me out of them, I guess I'm going to pull the trigger with Rebel Offroad tomorrow. Now I only need to find a fellow Jeeper with a 'real' nutsert tool!!

Yeah those nutserts are a major pita. The trick is to turn slowly with even pressure. It helps to do a practice run on a scrap piece of metal to gauge how many turns you need to get them snug.

I would put a bead of silicon all the way around the armor, just below the bolt holes before you throw the corners on. After installing, put a final bead after with a wet finger to seal the edges to the tub.

Thanks D!! That was exactly what I was thinking of doing... which leads me to wonder if I really care about the rubber liners... oh well, what's another $50? lol
