Im curious. A LOT of people on here keep saying to get a rubi if you want an out of the box capable off road vehicle, is the X and Saharah not capable?? I am still running my stock "slick" saharah tires, and have been right there along side of rubis on trails, and by god, have had just as much fun. I say get the damn X and like the others have said, make it your own, use the money you save and make it bad ass. I have always thought a jeep is a jeep and they are all, x, saharah, rubi, whatever, capable off the lot, thats why its a F'n wrangler. I mean, if they were all the same price, get a rubi, but the MAJORITY of the time, that is not the case. I would be in an X right now but the dealer I got mine from was a family friend and gave me a good deal on the Sahara, whatever I friggen love it, have modded it myself, will do so till I die, and wouldnt trade it for a rubi today, yesterday, or any other day of the week. Get the jeep you can get the best deal on and build it up the way you want it, F what everyone else says.

I happily own a Sahara too, but I think the point of this thread is to determine if it cheaper/easier/"better by your definition" to start with a basic JK (X) or one with many of the desirable offroad features already included (Rubi), assuming you want to build a more offroad capable vehicle than Jeep offers..

I don't think anyone can argue that the locking front and rear D44, Tru-Lok 4.10 gears, NV241 Transfer case, rock rails, discos, coils and BFG MTs make it a more capable offroad out-of-the-box JK than the X and Sahara, albeit for a price.

Jeep's price uplift for those parts is lower than one pay in the aftermarket those components. However, IMO the question give a choice "Are those the parts you would buy?".

I think that if the answer is YES, "they are good enough" or I want to finance the cost of the parts together with the rest the vehicle, then the Rubi is a better choice.

Ohhhh, and as far as upgrades lets by no means forget the "Rubicon" decals on the hood, which provide better offroad performance than the X/Sahara ones on the quarterpanel!

haha definately tru about the RUBI hood, and yea the rubi is without argument, have more out of the box off road features, but the OP said he was going to upgrade a great deal of the parts that you pay to get a rubi. I do know one thing, if I got a rubi, i wouldnt have these stupid 18" wheels and dueler "a/t s"
anywho, goodluck with your decision, whatever you get, you'll be happy

No matter which one I end up with the lockers and gears will pobably will pobably be far, far down the road. The lift, wheels, tires, and recovery gear will be on very soon after I get the jeep.

I don't know if I would change the gears or the lockers on a Rubi if that is what I end up with, we will just have to wait and see. About a week!!
