Rubicon, tires quieter then expected... Suggest new Aggressive rubber

OK
Got my Rubi today and must admit I am pleased with the stock Rubi tires, much quieter than I had expected and were great on the Freeway.
Now I think I might be able to deal with something more aggressive than an BFG AT or Nitto Terra Grappler BUT I need to have SUPERB handing in snow and rain.

33's on 17 in AEV Pintiers....

What do you guys suggest without spending a fortune?

Id really like something I can get at Discount Tire due to their warranty and they are everywhere around me.

Rugbyduck 10-31-2007 08:51 PM

I suggest you stop starting "new tire" threads!

How many must we endure?

If you like the stock B.F. Goodrich Mud T/A's then how about just getting larger ones? In a radial anything besides Super Swamper TSL Radials aren't going to be as aggressive and/or quiet as the Mud T/A's. If you don't mind the noise then maybe Nitto Mud Grappler or Pitbull Rockers might be a good choice.

No aggressive tire is going to handle well in the rain slicked streets though. Although they seem to help to keep from hydroplaning on the freeway when there is standing water. You said you want SUPERB handling in the rain and snow? An all-terrain with lots of siping will do great on rain slicked roads but load up and slide in snow. In Oregon I found that the best thing is a really aggresive mud tire with studs because they grip really well on the wet leaf covered roads as well as the snow. I'll probably throw on a set of Toyo Mud Terrains with studs on my Rubicon here before long.

"How many must we endure?"

Oh man, I fell for it again. Same guy with multiple threads about tires. I think I even posted on that other one. Gee Wizz.

 ar'nt the stock rubi tires 33's on 17's or 18's:thinking:

i believe the factory bfg's are about as good of a snow tire as money can buy, and you have allready payed for them, besides why would you castrate a perfectly good rubi by putting less than mud tires on it????????????????????????????????????????

According to the many other threads...he's a self-proclaimed "poser". Why ask why...:naw:

JYogi 10-31-2007 10:00 PM

Dont like it...
Dont respond.
I was all set on the Nitto Terra Grappler but the MT was much quieter then I was lead to believe it would be so I think I can consider a more aggressive tires.
The BFG MT is not good in snow and rain as its not sipped <sp?>.
If Discount Tire can get and warranty the Dick Cepeks I will go with them
if not I will stick with the Nitto's and sorry to disturb you G-ds...
Sorry I see no fasination in trying to climb over boulders nor do we have
places to do it in my area. I go on trails, I use my Jeep to camp, get to my hunting spots, go deep into the woods to set up my blinds and things like that but compared to some of the pics of you guys climbing mountains yes I am a poser but I am no mall rat...

I've had good luck with my xtreme MT's but they make a little noise on the road

JYogi 11-01-2007 06:46 AM

Someone sent me a PM telling me to ignore the trolls and said I
should check out the Dunlop Radial Rover RT. I had really not heard
much about these at all outside of the Rover guys but Id like to see
what some here think?

Again, the real reason I am looking again is the stock Rubi M/T is much quieter
than I had expected.... So, why not get something with a better look if it will
be as good as something like the Nitto in snow??

Again, sorry to the uber cool crowd that I joke about being a poser as I dont climb boulders etc but I am no mall rat either! Some of you need to lighten up a little.
Thanks to the Mods and everyone else for sharing all of your knowledge with me and your patience! That's why I love the Jeep community (first vehicle ever was a 89 Wrangler and then I had 3 Grand Cherokees over the years) but of course there are always a couple rotten apples in every bunch.

It might be you...:bleh: Here's a tip! Why don't you go back through the threads you've already crated and I bet you find your answer! 11 pages of discussion and pics that you've already initiated. Hell, even I politely responded...with pics no less! I just think you're beating a dead horse man.:naw:

coltc2000 11-01-2007 03:35 PM

the r/t is only made in 16'' and smaller rim diameter have heard lots of good about that tire . kind of hard to find except online

JYogi 11-01-2007 04:59 PM

16's wont work as I picked up the AEV Pintlers today...
They look good, can't wait to go to Discount Tire
on Monday when my friends back to work to pick out
some new tires... Just gonna see what they carry and he
suggests.

I am doing the OME lift for sure!

And now I am open to more aggressive tires since I see the noise
isnt an issue with the hardtop as the MT's dont bother me.

FRDesign 11-01-2007 05:00 PM

Get the new BFG KM2's.

Zylfrax791 11-01-2007 07:41 PM

JYogi,

I think you missed the point. You created 3 different tire threads asking the same questions and then you basically answered these questions yourself without taking any of the feedback that other users gave you. Its almost like the threads were just thoughts bouncing around inside your head as opposed to someone looking for the experiences of other users to form a decision about what tires to buy. Next time you want to think out loud and ask for others input on specific products and services I'll be sure and not reply...

Why not quit being such a troll and respect the moderator.

Also why not notice I have opened my search to beyond the regular AT
IF it will not be super noisy in the hardtop while I was strictly look at
an AT before

ZY, I will keep your point in mind in the future... BUT I did pay attention to what others said and thats why I eliminated and added new choices to my posts. I just am trying to find something either with a better look and close to as good of a performance at the same price or something cheaper but that still has a good look and tread life close to the BFG

Do they have the new BFG KM2 in a 33 for a 17 in wheel?
I saw plenty of them in 35's and WOW did they look GREAT!!!

Now when at AEV one of the head techs was bitching about the TPMS as saying they require you to keep too high of a tire pressure for your 33-35's to wear properly.

I guess when fully inflated tp TPMS level you will wear your center treads before your outside????

Who can blame me for wanting something that looks tough! Runs great in snow and doesnt make so much noise it would drive me nuts in the hard top and lastly wear fairly well on the roads....

Stock Rubi tires are 31"ers on 17's. Got my Rubicon on the 29th. Was suprised they were as "quiet" as they are too. Good. :) BTW, the quote made me laugh, as I read other posts on the site for 2 months before making a post/response. :bleh:

FRDesign 11-01-2007 10:39 PM

The stock Rubi tires are about 31.3" tall when I measured em at a dealer.

You can take or leave this recommendation.

1. With tires, you get what you pay for. Dont ask for the miracle tire on a garage sale budget.

2. there are alot of tires that are just remakes or clones of others.

3. buying a seet of budget tires now and having to replace them because they are driving you crazy will cost you much more than getting the good stuff the first time.

4. I have run many of the tires that you speak of. I crawl rocks, hit trails, play in sand and use it in rain and snow. I spend the entire summer with the top off.

5. I have the toyo Open Country mt's. they cost more but are absolutely the quietest / best tire that I have ever owned. I wish that everybody had a set !

Good luck with your decision, but do not decide with your wallet, you may regret it in the end. I'm not saying that you are being cheap, I just know that it is always on everybody's mind. Good tires are worth paying for. I have alot of spare sets sitting in my garage to prove my point.
