rugged ridge modular bumper and winch install ???
just got the r.r xhd modular bumper with end caps and r.r 8500 winch, any tips for dismounting factory bumper and installing new bump and winch, how and where do i wire it up to?? thanks
They are very easy to install. It was harder to remove the factory bumper than install my new RR bumper. The directions say to install the winch before installing the bumper but i found it easier to install the bumper first and then install the winch after the bumper was mounted and level. I have a warn M8000 and i ran the cables along the frame just like the ones for the fog lamps and then just went up to the batt. The cables were just long enough. I also put some plastic cable sheath on them to keep the insullation from getting worn on something.

x2 on installing bumper first, the two together would be a PITA to lift and get on right. some of the bolts on the stubby are knuckle busters but are not impossible, installing the end caps last helps with getting to them. good luck and post some pics when you're done.
I tried to install the bumper first and then the winch and ran into problems. I couldnt get the bolts for th winch installation to start threading because of the angle. I also could not attach the wires to my smittybuilt winch once it was mounted to the bumper. My suggestion is attach the wire to the winch, then install winch to the bumper and then get a friend to help you lift the whole thing up there. Thats what I had to do eventually after screwing around for a 1/2 day trying to do it the other way around.

I installed the winch on the bumper then used a floor jack to set it on frame ends. Did it by myself. But do wish I'd have wired it first, the bottom wire was a b#$%^&tch to get on & tightened.
The way I did it was I installed the bumper with the hoop off. Then I added my control box mount to the winch. Attached all the cables and then just ran the two cables that go to the batt through the hole provided. That way the winch is ready to go and you dont have to try and attach the ground cable after it is mounted to the bumper. You just drop it in and attach it with the four bolts and your are ready to go other than pulling out your winch cable and attaching the hook. Either way the bumper and winch combined is only about 160lbs so it's not very heavy if you want to attach the winch first. The main reason that I did it the way I did was because I had not made my control box mount yet and I wasn't sure how i wanted to do it so I was placing the winch on the bumper and taking measurements to see how I wanted to do it. I didn't want any of the cables rubbing on the grill.
Lube the origional bolts on the factory bumper way before you try and remove them. The ones on my jeep were freaking TIGHT !!!!!!!!
The rest of the install goes easy, you should have no problems.
Should look like this when you get it off.
