Both RR bumpers here and zero problems. I was just under the jeep the other day looking for any powder coat problem on the backside of both and found nothing wrong.

Dude, this sounds like something right out of Shutter Island or something!!!

I have the rear bumper too, and when I went home on R&R from my deployment, I discovered the "clunk" sound when I drove over bumps. I just sent the RR rep a PM to see if they have a fix. Hope so! I'm just glad I know what it is! Anyone know if it'll do any damage in the long run if I DON'T fix it?

The vertical bracket actually dented the body when it hit. Of course it isn't visible unless you remove the bumper and the bracket And it was enough that I believe the paint is now cracked, will get worse and then rust will appear. The fix should be a new mounting bracket from RR that is fabricated properly and the holes for the mounting bolts are drilled in the proper place.
The other problem that could be very serious if it isn't fixed is your sanity. That noise will surely drive you nuts in no time at all.

Dude! It dented your body?! I definitely need to get it fixed. You say RR will send me a new mounting bracket? That going to require me to put the whole thing back on? That was a freakin' nightmare!

Can you post pics of the bad mounting bracket and the new one that they sent you together? Can you see the difference by looking at them?

I was told they would have sent me a new mounting bracket had I called them immediately with the problem. They believe the holes for the mounting bolts were just drilled in the wrong spot.
But I did choose to just deal with it at my end so it could be fixed in a timely fashion. And I notified them of the problem after it was fixed.
The rep did say that this was not a problem that they were aware of and he was sorry for the inconvenience.
Just a bit of humor stuck in here though If I may. The more often you remove the bumper the easier it gets to install it. I had it off 5 times finding and fixing the problem. The real problem was I also installed a complete lift kit at the same time so the clunk could have come from anywhere. I looked at and re-did everything. What a PITA!!!

That sucks, man. Yeah, I installed the bumper, then "deployed" off to Korea. When I went home on TDY, I heard it for the first time, and I want to fix it when I go home on R&R in October, but I think Rugged Ridge won't help me out. I PM'd them, but they aren't responding. Oh well...I guess I'll just figure it out - I think I read someone loosened everything, had someone sit on the right rear corner, and then tightened everything up. Maybe I'll try that if RR never gets back in touch.

I had the same issue but just removed the bumper, drilled a hole through the mounts and frame and added another bolt on each side toward the back of the frame and the problem was fixed.

i dont think i've ever noticed a clunk but I'll have to check it out now. The install of the rear was a nightmare with the tire carrier. Plus, because I did not have the factory bumper to start with, i didn't have the bolts needed to attach the rear brackets. The ones I found lying around are all rusty now and need to be replaced already. We shouldn't need to reuse factory hardware to install aftermarket parts. The problem i do have is that the bumper sits 1/2 inch higher on the left than on the right (when viewing from the rear). The left plate would not sit flat because of the poor welding from the jeep factory? I was told not to grind the weld as that would make it weaker so instead, I may take it back apart and shim the right side. Now that I know there's a clearance issue with the body hitting the bracket, i may have to re-think that.

I will say this though, rugged ridge customer service has been top notch. Purchases from the so far are front xhd bumper with end caps and overrider, front skit, evap skid, rear bumper and tire carrier.

Hey, man, think you could upload some photos to explain better? I'm a dumb cop - visual learner.
