Default Rust on Shock shaft?

Hey Guys,

I bought a lift kit from a guy off a different board and when it arrived one of the shocks has some considerable rust and pitting on the shock shaft near the far end. I am guessing that the rust would contact the dust seals when it nears full articulation.

Thoughts? Should I run the shock until it dies or just replace it now?

The shock is a pro-comp ES9000.

Cheers,

Run it till it leaks. Shock shafts form rust pretty quickly here with the winter snow and salt on the roads. The shock shafts are usually pitted and rusted after just one winter. A pretty colored boot goes a long way to making it look better, but the rust is still underneath.

Check the movement. If you compress it and it stays ther, already junk. Dont waste your time installing it. If seal area is oily. Same. Junk.

I think the es3000 that came on the YJ I just bought are frozen. I pulled one boot to take a look and 12 oz of muddy water poured out!

The YJ bounces down the road like a SOB
