Default Sahara side steps versus rock sliders

My wife and in-laws complain about getting in and out of the jeep. One could argue that it's a good thing, but I would rather be driving my jeep than sitting in the back of their Camry.

So I was thinking that maybe upgrading to a set of ace rocksliders would be a good thing for offroad and perhaps solve my problem with the in-laws.

Do people have an easier time with a bar sticking off of a slider than the plastic side steps that come with the jeep?

Or do I need to get rocksliders that have steps, like the MBRP ones? (Too expensive for my budget)

Thanks for your input!

I really like my ACE bars. they serve well as steps and protection both. I think something that is needed though to compliment them is a set of grab handles to install on the roll bars. that way , the people getting into the Jeep on the bars will have something to grab onto.

Definitely getting grab handles, but do the sliders work any better than the side steps?

Just for side steps only, the Sahara factory steps are the best thing going in my opinion. But...if you want to really get your money's worth, it's better to do the ACE rails. Then you at least get some real protection in parking lots and on the trails. You do NOT want to take the Sahara steps into rugged terrain.

Sounds like you might just be better off with some new in-laws

I have the factory chrome side steps and it makes the leg have to raise even more just to get around them

I've done both - started out with Sahara steps and then upgraded to ACE rock rails.

The Sahara steps are, IMO, the BEST steps. They are the easiest to get into and out of the Jeep with. But the ACE rails do a very good job immitating them. You sacrifice a little in terms of foot purchase, but it still works very well - I'd say they are about 80% as effective as the Sahara ones.

The Sahara ones will get destroyed if you offroad to any extent that would be considered fun - I knocked the plastic portion off its mounts by landing on rocks and had to retap and reattach them. The ACE rails can take a beating all day long

If you're just going to us the JK for trail riding what you have will work fine, but playing in the rocks will destroy quickly.
