Default Screw into yout HARDTOP?

Anyone ever bolt or screw anything directly through the hardtop? I am thinking of making a custom low pro roof rack for my 4 door. Mainly store some MaxTrax and maybe other things like a shovel and stuff. The maxtrax just take up too much space inside. The rack will not be as big as the full ones. Just maybe 3' long by the width of the top. And its not going to sit up as high

I was thinking of some type of sealant in the wholes to make sure no water gets in.

you can see here. The dudes from one car too far have theirs bolted some how.

There are some good writeups on this here. Search roof racks and you should get a bunch of hits and you'll see how others have done it. It should give you some good ideas.. Good luck

I installed rack slider rail on each side and applied a bead of silicone to each hole prior to inserting each bolt. Hasn't leaked ever.

Another add to the list of "to-do" things would be to provide a metal support inside to displace some of the pressure from the 4-6 holes in the top.. For example... If your rack is 3ft long, you would run an 1 1/2 x 1/8" x 3ft strap on the inside of the top to run your bolts through. It helped displace the weight on the rack, helps provide strength when the occasional tree branch comes along and so on. I ran a strap top and bottom on my last Jeep and it worked flawlessly for years... I'll try to dig up the pics...

Friends garage, I borrowed it for a week to bedline the tub. Figured I'd get the rack done during the cure time. My garage isn't done yet, but soon!!
