Default Seeking armor advice

I'm looking for side armor with some sort of step. My daughter and wife would like to get in the Jeep without falling all over the place. I don't really need anything super heavy duty and I'm on some sort of budget. My offroading is pretty much limited to hunting trails and I have no intention of rock crawling.

That said, I do like the ACE sliders everyone talks about. But they are up to a month and a half behind and I'm looking for the near future. I'm trying to limit the cost to about $400 or less if I can do it.

The two I'm debating at the moment are the Rock Hard Guards below:
LoD Jeep JK Wrangler Signature Series 4-Door Unlimited Rock Sliders (SRS1004)

The other one I'm considering are the Smittybilt SRC side guards.
Smittybilt 76634 - Smittybilt SRC Side Armor in Textured Black for 07-13 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door - Quadratec

I know some are not fans of Smittybilt, but from my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), their quality is getting better. I'm really interested in the design of the top ones, but the Smittybilt are intriguing because of the price point.

Thoughts? I'm not really looking for anything else beyond the ones above or a something in the price point I mentioned.

I have the body armor sliders, I'm happy with them, only negative thing I can say is that they were a pain to install alone....

What made them so difficult? How much do they weigh?

I like those Rock Hard rails, considering those myself.

Also checkout the JCR, similar price point and have integrated step.

JcrOffroad, Inc. JK Wrangler 4 Door Stage 2 Rock Sliders

I wouldn't buy smittybilt armor. Their stuff tends to be poor quality. I've seen people with the rails and they crumple like an aluminum can.

I have the SRC (step ones) too. They're just HEAVY. I had to use the spare tire lift to hold up the side I wasn't bolting on. Passenger side no problem. Driver side pain. The holes didn't line up and had to grind out one hole to make it fit. Once they were one hours later I was happy. And sore

The Rampage are a really good option for steps and we've got a good deal on them. They're retractable. Install is simple and they're lightweight (only around 32 lbs). As mentioned though, if you do heavy offroading, then you need something more substantial. For your needs (hunting, no rock crawling) they would be a great solution.

Thanks for the advice guys. Now I'm going to shop around and see who can hook me up for the best deal. I'm leaning towards the Smittybilt.

I was at Northridge 4x4 yesterday and saw a ton of ACE boxes, you might want to call and see if they have sliders.
