Because you're going to the dealer. They're going to be the most expensive place to get things done. Find an independent mechanic/shop and pay them $500 (or less) to do it. Or better learn how to do this yourself, and you'll also save money for another mod.

That is crazy! Don't pay it. Take it home and do it yourself.

Agreed. And the warranty doesn't somehow cover this? 5.6k miles seems a little soon for a stealership to be forcing the bill on you...

Only go to the dealer for stuff under warranty... I once had a dealer tell me $800 for new brake pads and installation for my old mazda 626 and another dealer tell me it would be $80 to mount a license plate bracket to the front of my 350z

That's the truth right there.... I would never pay a dealer to do work. Prices are insane. Either do it myself, find a friend, or use a neighborhood mechanic - in that order of preference!

Its like water damage on a cellphone. Things like that are not covered. It is important in mud and water in your jeep to not push in the clutch. You need to learn to bump gears with rpm or just plan ahead and stay in the same gear.

Most likely thou you don't need to replace the whole clutch. Get under there pull it out clean the plate and check the bearing. Good luck
