Default Shifting real concern w/ BL on 6speed?

I want to put a RC 1.25" BL on my JK unlimited. I have read tons of threads on this and they date back years. What Im wondering is does the shift extension in the RC kit work? There are so many threads with opinions, Im looking for first hand experience and what fixes it. I will do everything myself but want to know if the shifting and gear pop outs are still a concern as they seemed to be over last couple years. Please give me actual input if you have a BL on a 6speed. I prefer not to cut the boot but will if a small notch makes or breaks the pop out issue. Just need real input from those that have this setup so I can avoid the kit if it proves problematic.

No BL, but having had the popping 6-speed a note or two:

My trans didn't start popping out of first until after 65,000 miles (lifetime warr so covered). Some had it happen earlier some later so never can tell on when or what caused it.

I had an idiot glass co. employee break my shift boot ring and tear the boot out so I bought a new one from dealer and replaced the old one, now my boot slides down on the shifter and makes the first gear selection iffy unless I pull the boot up first. I don't know if it will pop out because of the boot, but am not taking chances having lived through it already.

But are you running a body lift?

I have been running a 1" body lift with a 6-speed for a couple of years now. Even with the 1", it has popped out of gear on me a few times. Not alot, but enough that I would want to mention it to anyone thinkng about it. Its Usually 2nd gear when accelerating hard and hitting a bump or expansion joint on an on-ramp. Its more pronounced when the tranny and/or weather is cold. It is close enough to popping out of gear on a regular basis that I don't think I would ever consider running a 1.5" body lift on a manual tranny......even with some sort of adapter.

I did NOT cut the boot or do any mods to the area surrounding the shifter. Just my personal opinion of course

After my body lift (no shifter extension) it wouldnt stay in 2nd, 4th, or 6th without me holding it in. I swapped the stock rubber boot with a leather one from redline powersports (online) and never had a single issue again. The rubber outer boot actually puts a pretty good amount of bind/pressure on the shifter that the leather relieved.

Could not agree more this is how I fixed mine as well. I have the RC 1.25" body lift with adapter and this is how I fixed as well. That rubber accordian was just too damn tight with the body lift. Actually it used to pull mine out of gear before the body lift as well in cold weather.

Just finished installing the BL with a six speed and so far no problems. The shift extender was needed. I really like stance of the jeep.

I had very little problems with mine popping out of gear at first, about 15K in it started to become frequent. I have since removed my center console and noticed the inner shift boot was rubbing on the metal ring that the outer (leather) shift boot is attached to.

I unclipped the leather (cosmetic) shift boot and I haven't had it pop out of gear once. If you don't own a JK I don't think you would ever even notice that it is missing.
