Question Shock Boots

Obviously you can go to any aftermarket web site and find tons of products for your jeep............most of which you probably don't need. But then again it's fun to spend $$$ on the Jeep .

Shock Boots? I can see the rational to these, but being a newbie I'm questioning it. Are shock boots something we really need or are they mainly just fluff? I recall having many dirt bikes in the past......some with shock boots & some without. The ones that had the boots always ended up getting ripped or torn off. I would speculate the same applies here.

Just curious

My shock boots were thrown in the trash as my shocks were installed. I can see wanting to use them maybe if you live in the rust belt portion of the country, but I don't live there so this would just be a guess.

My general rule is if they are standard shocks (tube down, shaft up) I won't use them. If they are inverted (shaft down, tube up) I would use them to protect the shaft from rocks.

Running in the sand dunes all the time.. I run them... Saves the shafts and seals..

Shock boots trap dirt and moisture, causing rust to develop.

I can see that... But the constant sand blasting.. Got to have them... Usually have to replace the boots at least twice a year.. They even get tore up by the sand..

You can make a good argument for them if you never wheel in mud or water, but if you DO get your Jeep wet and/or muddy, the boots are just going hold crud in and cause premature rust/ruin.
