Default Shock extensions???

Hey, so I'm new to the whole lifting thing and I had one quick question. I have a 2008 jku and I was going to go with the rubicon express 2.5" lift kit. Now, I plan on just getting new shocks on e I sell my roof rack base, so should I fork out the extra money for the shock extensions? Kinda seems like a waste to me, but I have never lifted anything. The kit w/o them says it works with factory shocks so will I be good for a little bit till I can upgrade? Thanx for any input... -steve

Shock extensions work fine. I run them on difficult trails at Uhwarrie with no issues. I'll swap them when I stop being cheap.

I would say just save your money and go with new shocks but that's me. I went with the Rubicon Express 2.5" coil lift with mono tube shocks and love it. had a chance to get out and really test it out this weekend and could not be happier.

Shock extensions keep your stock shock from bottoming out with a lift. So if you don't have the extra money for a longer travel shock you will gain more down travel than keeping it mounted in the factory position with a lift, if that makes sense? It's an inexpensive solution to the problem. Running stock shocks with that lift will inhibit the down travel available.

Got it. I like more trail riding than rock crawling, so I am thinking I will be ok until I have the extra money. I'm going with more of an expedition style jeep. I only want to lift it a little bit to clear those pointier hills...

They are a good and cost effective product. You don't actually gain any travel as in "flexing" but you still gain the ground clearance of the lift, and that is what you want for your needs.

.

You will gain down travel, or "flexing", with shock extensions as compared to just running the stock shocks with the lift.

Ok, I am not too worried about downward travel at this point. I was just looking for a little lift and a smooth ride. I like that I can add the shocks later on. Thanx for the help guys...

Now what about these rubicon shocks? Are they longer? I see people upgrading to them, would this be a better route for me to go???
